Hot on the heels of their acclaimed 2023 reformation gig, Where’s the Pope? return with what promises to be another scorching show at The Gov on Friday November 1.

Last year’s gig followed a 15-year hiatus for the Adelaide punk legends and sold out in record time, their adoring fans rejoicing in a blistering, faultless set, led by high-energy frontman Frank P decked out in his papal finery.

he hardcore/thrash pioneers will be joined by fellow raucous noise-makers the legendary The Bearded Clams, as well as Beerwolf who have just released their album Common Grief featuring Pete Wood from local band The Hot Lies.

WTP? enjoyed a huge, devoted following through the 80s and 90s releasing four albums including Greasy Pop masterwork Sunday Afternoon Barbecues, a pulsating tribute to the joys of intoxication including smash hit and mission statement We Want Your Beer and the anthemic title track. Both tracks made the Top 20 best SA songs of all time. Aside from playing Early Big Day Outs and major supports, Where’s the Pope? are best remembered for the intensity of their local shows at legendary venues, with their gigs at the pre-pokies “Holdy” at Glenelg the stuff of folklore.

Southern suburbs ambassador and AFL/radio star Ryan “Fitzy” Fitzgerald is bracing himself to witness their second coming. “Where’s The Pope? and the Clams, the last time I saw these two bands together I brought some of the roofing down at the Glenelg Lifesaving Club,” Fitzy said. “Tell The Gov I’ve got a few mates who are roofers who will look after them in November.”
